Harry Potter Inspired Nursery

I have wanted to share my daughter’s Harry Potter-themed nursery for years now. My goal was to create a cozy, Harry Potter-themed sanctuary with a feminine flair. I wanted to have plenty of Harry Potter elements, but I went for smaller details. I was gifted a lot of these items from a friend or they were given to me for my baby shower, but there are many things you can do to save money to create a magical Harry Potter space for your nursery.

I had a magical, feminine vibe in mind but pink for the walls was not what I wanted. Then we went to Home Depot to pick out the paint color for the nursery, and my boyfriend chose pink. He was really excited…. so pink it was. I had many internal battles over how to make it match with brown. We had an old-school brown ceiling fan, the beautiful wooden Weasley clock my sister-in-law gifted us, the brown/tan rocking chair, etc.

I reminded myself I was not an interior designer but could still create a magical space in this tiny, pink room that made my boyfriend so happy. Because of the pink, I wanted to lean towards a Honeydukes theme but never got around to it. However, I think the nursery still turned out great. The fairy lights around the hanging owls made it magical at night. The nursery photos below are before we moved and had to do it all over again.

We moved when she was 8 months old, and I was still committed to the Harry Potter theme. This time around I picked a color theme of pink, gold, and teal.

I still haven’t hung up the owls in the golden cages with the fairy lights, but our daughter loves playing with the owls and cages so they’re still getting used.

Let’s take a tour!

1. Harry Potter Baby Creatures for Nursery

2. Soft Plush Deer Minky Baby Blanket

3. Rocking Chair and Ottoman

4. Night Owl Accent Table Lamp

5. Teal Nightstand – This had been in our living room, but it worked better for the nursery since it had a drawer and fit the color scheme.

6. Star Night Light Projector

I received the owl lamp as a baby shower gift and am still completely in love with it. Along with the name decal, I feel like those pieces brought the Harry Potter nursery together. There’s nothing wrong with putting a few nursery decor items on your baby registry, especially if it’s something you want for the space. Your friends and family will love showering you, so do it!

7. Night Light Glowing Owl – Not only does this add to the Harry Potter aesthetic, but I started putting her to sleep with this around 9 months old. The music helped soothe her and as she got older, she would change the colors herself.

8. Personalized Wall Decal in Wizard Font – One of my favorite elements in the nursery is the wall decal in a wizard-type font. The Etsy shop where I found the decal is no longer operating, but this one looks the same.

9. Delta Children Heartland 4-in-1 Convertible Crib

10. Marauder’s Map

11. Don’t Let the Muggles Get You Down Wall Art – The wooden art I have in the photo above is only available at Hallmark and isn’t available online, but I found this one on Etsy that fits the color scheme.

12. Owl Wall Art – The owl decor in the photo above is also no longer available from Target or I can’t seem to find it, but this link will also take you to Etsy with another beautiful owl painting.

The baby wizarding creatures from Etsy are even better in person. I specifically wanted a Thestral incorporated somewhere in her room because although I love pastels, my soul runs otherworldly (LOL). The watercolor Thestral EXCEEDED my expectations. I looked everywhere and this Etsy shop was the only one I found with a BABY THESTRAL. LIKE WHAT?!

So then I had to buy the complete set. They had been on sale, but sometimes if you add items from a store to your cart, but don’t buy them right away, you may receive a notification from the store offering a discount.

The golden frames from Amazon were perfect for the color scheme and came with 7 frames. One 11×14, two 8x10s, and four 5x7s that I used for the baby animals from Harry Potter.

The broom is a budget-friendly way to give the nursery a witchy vibe. I had a lot more brooms in the original nursery. I opened my Halloween bin and took out all the brooms I had. You can turn a broom like this into the Nimbus 2000 as my friend’s mom did with just some paint, glue, and wooden number decals from Amazon. The zeroes fell off but I’ll get around to gluing them back on eventually!

These Harry Potter curtains were so inexpensive! I did run into the issue of too much light coming into the nursery, so I layered them with dark grey, blackout curtains. The tissue paper pom poms hanging from the top of the curtains were from my baby shower decorations and added another touch of pink.

The amount of stuffed animals we collected since our daughter was born is insane. I appreciated all the owls from my baby shower, but by 3 years old, she had dozens of stuffed animals all over her floor and it drove me nuts! This Stuffed Animal Hammock from Amazon was one of the best purchases I’ve ever made for her room, and you should buy it for your nursery. It comes with adorable LED star lights I keep on at night, and I put it at a height where my daughter can grab her stuffies herself.

These itty bittys from Hallmark are discontinued, but the Dumbledore itty bitty is on Amazon, and Hermione and Viktor Krum. If you’re Harry Potter obsessed like me, they’re an adorable addition to your collection or the nursery.

The picture of Harry’s silhouette with the Mirror of Erised was created using the words from the entire chapter of Mirror of Erised from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Unfortunately, it’s no longer available and I couldn’t find anything even close to this, but there are so many Harry Potter elements out there and you don’t need to spend a lot of money if you know what to look for.

The Hermoine, Harry, and Ron Ceramic Wall Plaques are also no longer available, but Etsy has so many different items for a reasonable price, like this customized Harry Potter wall sign. The trick is to search Wizard, not Harry Potter.

You want to be specific in choosing items around a color theme or elements from the Harry Potter movies.

Don’t just search for Harry Potter decor. Think of what makes the Harry Potter books and movies magical, for example:

Owls and Brooms

Owls, Envelopes, and Stars

Deers, Stars, and the “Always” quote.

The Tale of the Three Brothers
(very easy to create the Deathly Hollows symbol and make your own artwork for the nursery.)

Choose one House
(this one I stayed away from because I wasn’t fond of any of the colors, but you can always think in shades of green, red, yellow, or blue instead of the darker house hues.)

Platform 9 3/4, cauldrons, wands, faux brick accent wall

Honeydukes
(bright, colorful decor in pinks and greens. Lots of digital prints on Etsy for very cheap, or even prints of candy!)

The Weasley clock was gifted to me by my sister-in-law and it’s GORGEOUS. I didn’t put this on my registry, but she knows how much I love Harry Potter and this was a perfect addition to the nursery. I still have not put pictures of us on the clock, but that’ll be on my to-do list this week (3 years later).

The Summer Contoured Changing Pad has over 34K reviews on Amazon and I felt safer that the sides are raised slightly. We also bought the Babebay Changing Pad Covers. These were super soft and easy to toss in the wash.

Many of the Harry Potter elements here were also gifted or from Loot Crate, which is a monthly subscription box I signed up for before I even knew I was pregnant. I canceled my subscription after three boxes, but they were filled with many cool Harry Potter items! Every other month, you receive 4-6 officially licensed Harry Potter & Fantastic Beasts collectibles, apparel, and more.

I received a shirt, scarf, those Hogwarts bookends, an assortment of erasers shaped like candy from Honeydukes in a gorgeous box, etc.

Even if you cancel your subscription after one box, it’s worth it if you’re a Harry Potter fan.

Putting the nursery together for your little one is supposed to be a fun and exciting experience, don’t get overwhelmed. Less is more!
